when we first met, I spoke with Frank, our supplier of Green and Jasmine tea, about farmer living conditions. He mentioned two families he had heard of who were struggling. "The tea garden they work in is a quite large traditional Green tea estate at 800m above sea level, with a total of 350 hectares and 45 farmer families. Most of the young people have left to work in the city and those remaining in the village are mostly the old and very young. The two families we are hoping to support are:
I think we could help them to finish the middle school and enter into senior high school." I suggested we put in place a program, starting with these families, to encourage children finishing school rather than going to work. So that is what we have done. Offering some support to these two families is a first step in properly understanding the needs of our tea farmers in China. |
